VILLAZAN, situated in the Upper East Side neighborhood of New York City, is excited to present "BEHOLDER," the inaugural solo exhibition by Maceo Eagle, thoughtfully curated by Roosi. "BEHOLDER" reveals the culmination of three years of dedicated research and development, marked by extensive creative exploration. This series revolves around dynamic, ever-evolving forms, gracefully shifting between the biomorphic and the figurative. These vibrant compositions come to life through a striking color palette that evokes hi-vis safety vests and vintage rave flyers.

Eagle's paintings are deeply immersed in the visual language of pre-internet youth culture. Hints of his graffiti roots resonate in the colorful, swirling lines that, while abstract, still capture the essence of his wildstyle graffiti murals. This exhibition subtly acknowledges a multitude of cultural influences. Eagle pays homage to the impact of the science magazine Omni, and indeed, his neon compositions could readily be interpreted as depictions of extraterrestrial landscapes or anatomy.

The artist's life has been a rich tapestry woven from diverse cultural experiences. Growing up in the vibrant DIY punk scene of Olympia and Seattle, Washington, he delved into skateboarding and graffiti. He later spent years in Tokyo, immersing himself in the worlds of vintage streetwear and high fashion, ultimately founding the multifaceted brand Kinfolk in Tokyo's Naka-Meguro district. Eventually, he made his way back to Brooklyn to open the legendary Williamsburg nightclub and retail space. Throughout his journey, Eagle has consistently centered his life around art and culture, transitioning between the roles of creator and facilitator. Now, in his debut solo exhibition, Eagle confidently steps into the spotlight as an artist.
